Joint Action of the Region and Education for the Geopark

Meeting of Deputy Regional Governor V. Simos with the Directors of Education in Trikala, Mr. Trikalis and Mr. Kapaniaris

Today, the Deputy Regional Governor for Education, Vasilis Simos, met with the Directors of Primary and Secondary Education of Trikala, Mr. Christos Trikalis and Mr. Alexandros Kapaniaris, respectively.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the educational authorities of Trikala about the initiatives promoted by the Region of Thessaly, as well as the Municipalities of Meteora and Pyli, to enhance the visibility and promotion of the Meteora-Pyli Geopark, which has been recognized as part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.

During the meeting, discussions focused on collaboration strategies between the Region of Thessaly and the Education Directorates to ensure that information about the opportunities offered by the Geopark’s inclusion in the UNESCO Global Network is effectively conveyed to the educational community, including teachers, students, and parents.

As part of this initiative, it was agreed to organize two informational seminars for Primary and Secondary Education teachers serving in schools in Meteora and Pyli. These seminars will cover the unique geosites, historical, cultural, and religious monuments of the region, as well as the broader promotion and outreach activities undertaken by the Region of Thessaly and the Municipalities of Meteora and Pyli.
Additionally, teachers will be encouraged to pass on this knowledge to their students, promoting the concept of “Geopark Ambassadors” among their students.
