At the northwestern end of the meteoritic rocky cluster is the monastery of Saint Theodosius, on the rock of which one finds scattered small ascetics and cells. Inside the small church, frescoes in two layers are preserved. The newer paintings are from the 19th century. The oldest of them, of remarkable style, date back to the beginning of the 17th or the end of the 16th century.
In Gavros, ascetics were carved in hollows comparable to those of Meteor, such as those of St. Nicholas and St. Theodosius. Small caves that with much monastic care and much prayer were transformed into a place of people who wanted to communicate strictly and exclusively with God. Unfortunately, in the past, the asceticism of St. Theodosius was subjected to shoddy interventions aimed at making it more accessible, and all they achieved was to form an unsightly visual image. The Municipality of Chassia, in order to restore the monument to its original form and to highlight the surrounding area, undertook the preparation of a study, which was implemented with the removal of the poorly executed interventions, while at the same time the original access to the ascetarium from the natural path was highlighted, many parts of which are still intact today.
