The monastery is located one kilometer north of the homonymous village of Kalambaka, outside the stone forest of Meteora. The year of its foundation is unknown. However, it is mentioned among the monasteries of Meteora in the year 1541, in a letter of Neophytos II, Bishop of Larissa, in which the freedoms and privileges of the Monastery of Megalo Meteoro are confirmed.

The monastery is built on a vertical rock and on four floors, due to the narrowness of the space. It was radically renovated in the years 1993-1999, when a new sisterhood of women was installed, which promises, with its divine zeal, to continue the historical course of the monastery.

The Katholikon is very small, with an old and modern fresco (P. Zacharis) and a traditional wooden carved iconostasis. It holds holy relics of Saint Theodore and Saint Tryphon. Of its manuscript wealth, only one manuscript survived, the codex No 105 of the monastery of Saint Stefanos of Meteora.

From the old times and until today the monastery of Saints Theodoroi is highly revered by the faithful, it is a special holy pilgrimage of the whole region (Hasia and lowland villages). The esteem and reverence of the Christians is evident from the number of devotees, many of whom live outside the prefecture of Trikala, but also abroad. It is characteristic that even non-Christians are mentioned.
