Several events of local and national character take place in the Municipality of Meteora. These are:

Carnival Treasure Hunt
The Kalabaka Carnival Treasure Hunt is one of the most beloved and eagerly awaited events during the Carnival season. Young and old alike take part in a fun-filled celebration full of riddles, challenges, costumes, and lots of laughter, as they wander through the streets and neighborhoods of the town searching for the hidden “treasure.” This festive event has become a local tradition, attracting participants and visitors every year, creating unforgettable moments and spreading the joyful spirit of the Carnival throughout Kalabaka.
Annual Mushroom Festival
Every year at the end of summer the Museum of Natural History of Meteora and Mushrooms organizes the annual Mushroom Festival. The celebration includes concerts, mushroom hunting, mushroom foraging, truffle hunting, dances, theatrical events, seminars and other interesting activities, which offer the visitor a complete entertainment and educational experience. Our young friends will not be left unsatisfied, as artistic workshops await them, where they can participate, freeing their creativity.


Hanging of mandilins at St. George of Mandila Church
The Holy Monastery of Saint George Mandila is located in a rocky depression opposite Panagia Doupiani. Access is accessible only by experienced climbers. According to an old custom, on the day of the Saint’s feast and at the end of the service, the young people of the village hang colourful scarves and light candles in the monastery. The handkerchiefs stay until the next feast of the Saint and are considered wishes for health.
Annual Religious Fair of Prophet Elias
The Annual Religious Fair of Prophet Elias of the Municipality of Kalambaka is a living institution that encompasses the creativity of its residents, as well as the vitality and the passion of those who participate in it.Many professionals take part in this successful event, which has managed to become an institution for the residents not only of the Municipality of Kalambaka, but also of the wider region and the neighbouring municipalities. At the same time, there is also a recreation area with an impressive Amusement Park. Good traditional food, cheap shopping, children’s games, entertainment, human relations, culture, service, hospitality, tradition, are some of the elements of the success that has become a tradition. The Fair is held every year on the Feast of Prophet Elijah (July 20). It usually starts on the eve and lasts for 5 days.


Meteora Art
Every summer, Kalabaka turns into a vibrant cultural hub through the Meteora Art Festival. Concerts, theatrical performances, art exhibitions, and a variety of artistic events fill the town with color, music, and creativity. The festival makes the most of the unique atmosphere and beauty of the Meteora rocks, offering unforgettable experiences for both locals and visitors. It has become a well-established tradition, blending art and heritage in one of Greece’s most impressive landscapes.
Chestnut Festival
The Chestnut Festival is organized at the end of every October at the “Goura” location of Kastania. It is a great success as more and more people attend to enjoy the boiled or roasted chestnuts and other delicacies offered free of charge to visitors. The fresh chestnuts from the region are given their due. The event is accompanied by dance performances by cultural associations of the region.


Wine Festival in Kastraki
An institution that is awaited every year by both the residents of the Municipality of Meteora and its visitors is the Wine Festival in Kastraki at the end of August. Attendees can have fun listening to folk and folk music, tasting sausages and souvlaki and of course, drinking plenty of local wine.
