The scheduled public consultation event on the development of the Operational Plan for the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) of the Meteora-Pyli Geopark was successfully held today, Holy Tuesday, 15 April 2025, at the Pyli Town Hall.

The event saw strong participation from the local community, with numerous citizens, institutional representatives, and local business actors in attendance. The Deputy Regional Governor of Trikala, Ms. Chrysa Ntinti, and the Mayor of Pyli Mr. Konstantinos Maravas , honored the event with their presence and, in their opening remarks, highlighted the significance of the ITI for the Meteora-Pyli Geopark area.

Ms. Aikaterini Pouliou, an official of the Special Management Service of the Region of Thessaly, presented the institutional framework of the ITI. Mr. Nikos Pitsoulis, technical advisor of the Region of Thessaly, outlined the key development axes of the ITI. These axes focus on the sustainable development of the area through the protection of its natural and cultural heritage, the strengthening of local entrepreneurship, and the improvement of residents’ quality of life. Additionally journalist Mr. Giannis Giannakopoulos presented the interim findings of the ongoing research on branding the Geopark.

The event served as an open platform for dialogue and exchange of views with the local community. The main objective of the consultation is the active involvement of citizens and local stakeholders in shaping the strategic plan, through the collection of needs, ideas, and proposals that will inform the Integrated Strategic Plan of the Meteora-Pyli Geopark ITI. Particular attention was given during the discussion to the issue of installing Renewable Energy Sources (RES) units within the Geopark. The local community expressed concerns and voiced a strong desire for the Geopark to be designated as a protected area, with a complete ban on such installations.
