The first of two scheduled consultation events within the framework of drafting the Operational Plan for the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) of the Meteora-Pyli Geopark was successfully held today, Thursday, April 10, 2025, in the Municipality of Meteora.
The event took place at the Documentation and Education Center of the Theopetra Cave, a site of great symbolic value for the area, which reopened after nine years.
The local community participated enthusiastically, with a large turnout of citizens, representatives of institutions, and businesses. The event was honored by the presence of the Deputy Regional Governor of Trikala, Ms. Christoula Dindi, and the Mayor of Meteora, Mr. Lefteris Avramopoulos, who both emphasized in their opening remarks the significance of the ITI for the Meteora-Pyli Geopark region.
Ms. Aikaterini Pouliou, an official of the Special Management Service of the Region of Thessaly, presented the institutional framework of the ITI. Mr. Nikos Pitsoulis, technical advisor of the Region of Thessaly, outlined the key development axes of the ITI. These axes focus on the sustainable development of the area through the protection of its natural and cultural heritage, the strengthening of local entrepreneurship, and the improvement of residents’ quality of life.
The event served as an open forum for dialogue and exchange of ideas with the local community. The main objective of the consultation is the active participation of citizens and stakeholders in shaping the plan by collecting needs, ideas, and proposals that will form the Integrated Strategic Plan of the Geopark’s ITI.
The public consultation remains open, and interested parties may submit their suggestions and views electronically until April 30, 2025, at the following link:
